Rev. Gene and Lena Shelton family in late 1940's. The children left to right are: Shirley, Rebecca, Ruth, Bob, Carl and girl in the middle looking up at her father is Priscilla. Left to right are Ella Latta, Andy Latta, Rebecca Shelton and Frank Latta in the late 1940's. The photo was taken on the Henry and Ester Latta Place about a mile and a half (1-1/2 miles) east of Bates just around the curve, on the left across the railroad tracks. The youngest of the Shelton children, the baby Martha in 1957. The baby was sitting at the corner of the east porch of the former home of Ed and Roxie Stamps at the Kennyville community north of Bates. Notice the well with bucket on the right edge of the photo with Poteau Mountain barely visible in the background

The Lattas and Sheltons Rev. Gene and Lena Shelton Ruthie Shelton  
This is a picture of Ester and Henry Latta with Lena and Rev Gene Shelton at Bates. The Latta's were very good friends of the Sheltons and attended Rev. Shelton's Bates Pentecostal Church from its beginning. The Lattas lived east of Bates, about a mile and a half near where the railroad track curved. This is picture of Rev. Gene and Lena Shelton taken in the late 1950's in front of the old Ed and Roxie Stamps place in Kennyville. Ruth Shelton in the late 1950's standing in front of the old Church of Christ (?) in Bates, it was across the road from the Pentecostal Church on the road (Bates Lane ?) going to Kennyville

House used as church Rev. Shelton, Mr. Moss and Mr. Fuller
Gene Shelton and another man working on the roof of an old house in Bates that was used as the Penetecostal Church for a time. Later Rev. Shelton over-saw the building of a new Pentecostal Church that is standing in Bates today. Three men at Bates in late 1940's: Mr. Fuller with the hat, Mr. Moss who was a photographer and had a small office in Bates and Rev. Gene Shelton on the right.

Baptism south of Bates, Arkansas on Shadley Creek in 1940's(?). Rev. Gene Shelton was pastor (on left in creek) conducting baptism service. Mr. Moss in photo above took this photograph. Notice the cars on the road in the background. The Bates Pentecostel Church of God on Bates Lane today where Rev. Gene Shelton served.
