Nan Synder at old home place Nan Synder 1940'
Nan Synder at her old home place in the 1940's. She lived by herself over at the foot of Walker Mountain near Cedar Creek. Just about everyone that knew her seemed to care a great deal for her, had a lot of respect for her. Nan Synder in 1940's. She died at the rock house of Isiah and Gertie Hill.(Note auto in background)

(Bertha is on the right in photos) Bertha with Maggie Francis, daughter of William and Celia Francis of Bates in about 1920. Bertha again with Mrs Osie M. Greathouse the wife of Tom C. Greathouse, Postmaster at Bates in about 1920.

Jim Johnson Jim Johnson Clyde and Joe Braziel
Jim Johnson of Bates, husband of Bertha Johnson with their daughter Irma Dean. Jim Johnson later in life was the sheriff of LaFlore County, Oklahoma. As sheriff one thing he was known for was his capture of some gangsters. Jim Johnson in his Chickasha Baseball uniform. He was a well known Minor League baseball player in eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas in the 1920's. Joseph Braziel and his son Clyde of Cauthron. The Braziel family lived and farmed in Cauthron in the 1920's with two daughters and four sons in the family, Clyde was the youngest son. Apparently they had moved from Oklahoma to Bates as all of the children had been born in Oklahoma. Joe, Clyde, Clyde's wife Laura, and John W. Braziel are buried at the Gipson Cemetery.
