Contributions to the Bates School Renovation and Restoration Project
One very important way people can help support this project would be to contact friends and relatives and inform them of this endeavor, to spread the word! Tell them they can obtain further information by going to this website or give them the Contact Information that's given below
The restored school building would not only be a historical place of interest but could serve as a Community Center with multiple purposes. It could be a place where: community groups could gather; families and organizations could unite for reunions; activities for children, youth and elderly of the community could be held; a heritage museum where donated memorable, historical items could be retained and displayed; and allow a place for an administrative office for the project.

Ruby Sanders of Bates is pictured presenting a check in the amount of $500.00 to School Board President Angela Free on behalf of her brother in California, Mr. Lloyd Winters.
Although he makes his home in Tracy, California, 80 year old Lloyd Winters still has close ties to Bates, Arkansas. He grew up in Bates, was a student there and some of his family still live in the Stateline area. Lloyd and his wife Lea stay in touch with the happenings of the Bates Community by news- paper articles and frequent phone calls from his sister Ruby Sanders. When Lloyd heard that the Bates Schoolhouse Renovation and Restoration Project was underway, he didn't hesitate to show support for a part of his heritage. He graciously dropped a $500.00 check in the mail to his sister to hand deliver to the Bates School Board in support of the project to turn the schoolhouse into a community center. I have not yet been introduced to this wonderfully generous man, but I and the other board members anxiously await Mr. Winters visit
to Bates this summer so we can thank him properly and enlighten him on our progress and future plans. Mr. Winters' gift was the first monetary donation received by the newly elected Bates School Board, and it came all the way from the West Coast. If that doesn't prove that Bates is on the map...I don't know what does!

Jerry and Toni Miller of Bates are pictured presenting Sarah Rice, Bates School Board Secretary, a check in the amount of $250.00 to show their support for the renovation and restoration of the Bates Schoolhouse. The Bates Schoolhouse Project is well underway, so fund raising activities and donations will determine the progress of these foundational first months. Jerry Miller was elected by the Bates Community to serve as Vice President of the Bates School Board Committee. Jerry and his wife Toni make their home in Bates. The community of Bates and the Bates School Board Committe are very grateful to have people like the Millers for neighbors and friends.
